October Happenings in 3K

With our first month of third grade in the books we are ready to get into our routines and stretch our brains! Every morning we begin our day with math class. In the beginning of this month our focus will be reviewing addition and subtraction key words, rounding and estimating. Then we'll move on to adding and subtracting larger numbers with regrouping.

During Social Studies this month we will begin to learn about the parts of our government, just in time for the election. We'll also begin our special Footprints program where once a week we will have a special lesson from the NCADD of Middlesex County. These lessons will focus on life skills through the use of puppet stories.

In October our main writing focus will be on narrative writing where each day students will learn the skills and strategies to make them fantastic narrative writers. Also this month we'll dive into some non-fiction reading with the stories Bat Loves the Night by Nicola Davies, and The Young Thomas Edison by Michael Dooling. Before we know it, we'll all be saying  and enjoying our favorite piece of candy!
